In his role of Chief Financial Officer at MAPFRE Middlesea plc, James Mallia is responsible for the company’s finance, investments and actuarial areas.

“Since joining the company in 1993, I was responsible for various areas, including Group consolidations, tax, regulatory and industry reporting,” Mr Mallia says.

Over the years, he gained a high level of expertise in the insurance accounting field as he was key in the implementation of new industry accounting standards and regulatory changes within the company, including Solvency II.

MAPFRE Middlesea plc, which is listed on the Malta Stock Exchange, is both a direct operating company and the holding company of MAPFRE Middlesea Group, which is the largest insurance group in Malta, enjoying leadership positions in both the life and non-life market.

A Certified Public Accountant, Mr Mallia has a BA (Hons) in Accountancy and is a Fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants. He sits on the Boards of the subsidiaries BEE Insurance Management Ltd, EuroMed Risk Solutions Ltd, Euro Globe Holding Ltd and Church Wharf Properties Ltd.
