The University of Malta’s Professor Brenda Murphy, from the Department of Gender & Sexualities, has officially been made a 2021 Salzburg Global Seminar American Studies Fellow.
The Salzburg Global American Studies Program fosters understanding and debate on America’s changing role in the world. With a distinguished track record since 1947, its annual symposia for professional leaders and scholars address topical questions affecting American culture, society and politics, analyze their global implications, and advance applied research.
The news of Prof Murphy’s appointment came after the U.S. Embassy invited and sponsored her to take part in the Salzburg Seminar American Studies 2021 symposium.
Participants in this year’s program will explore the intersections of the American presidency, press and people through a different lens - American History, American Culture, American Business and American Politics.
Although the theme of each Town Hall changes, the format will remain consistent, while each convening will build upon the last.
The activities will build momentum for a major in-person program at Schloss Leopoldskron, Austria, in Summer 2022 to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of Salzburg Global Seminar, which launched American Studies as an internationally recognised discipline in its own right.
Distinguished individuals will be invited to give lectures, speak on panels and participate in the programme.
