Drunk partygoers jumped over the counter of KFC at Bay Street and made off with food because they didn’t want to wait a few minutes for their chicken to cook.

The incident occurred at around 4:30am to 4:45am on Saturday, shortly before the restaurant was due to close, Food Chain Ltd General Manager Gordon Naudi tells WhosWho.mt.

Food Chain Ltd operates Malta’s KFC, Burger King and Pizza Hut outlets as part of Quinto Holdings.

“We close our restaurant at 5am, but just as the staff were starting to wind down, around 150 drunk people barged in,” Mr Naudi recounted.

“We always cook our chicken on the spot and don’t leave it waiting by the counter for health and safety reasons.”

However, some members of the crowd grew impatient and began arguing with staff over how long their food was taking. Around six or seven of them ended up jumping over the counter.

The people had just attended the Freedom Street Europe Caribbean music festival.

Despite the chaotic scenes, Mr Naudi said the individuals didn’t damage the kitchen or steal any money but only made off with a few burgers.

Security personnel were present at the restaurant but opted not to physically engage with the group to avoid escalating the situation further.

The police have been informed about the incident.
