Qormi mayor Renald Falzon passed away on Friday, the Qormi local council announced in a Facebook post.

Media reports say Mr Falzon, who was just 46, was battling COVID-19 at the time of his death.

A month ago, he had announced that he would not be available for his duties within the Qormi local council due to health issues.

The local council has offered condolences to his family and loved ones.
