Happy Pot, a Malta-based plant pot manufacturing company, celebrated the one-year anniversary since launch on Wednesday (today).
The company, which was founded by Chris Mercieca and Ġorġ Vella, seeks to combine creativity and personality with sustainability and environmental awareness through its 3D-printed plant pots. Aside from making use of recycled bioplastics for its products, a percentage of the profits made from each pot goes towards afforestation projects.
In a video posted on social media to mark Happy Pot’s milestone, Mr Mercieca, who is also CEO, said: “One year of Happy Pot, what a year it has been.”
“We started this with the goal in mind to not just sell something that people would enjoy looking at on their shelf or on their desk, but to actually make a positive change in the environment. And I think that we’re on the right track to doing that,” he highlighted.
Since its launch, the company “shifted some things around” to focus more on business to business (B2B), and has been “selling pots to companies for the most part”. This was evident through their collaboration with Ben Estates, as Happy Pot produced 80 trophies for the real estate agency’s annual award ceremony.
Mr Mercieca revealed that since the start of the year, Happy Pot has sold “just over 2,000 pots”, meaning over 2,000 trees have been planted. The company has an ongoing collaboration with UK-based Treeapp, which allows users across the world to plant trees where they’re needed most. Tree-planting projects in 13 developing countries around the world are currently being supported. The initial aim was to plant around 40,000 trees by the end of 2024, yet Happy Pot has since re-evaluated its goal, setting it to one million trees by 2030.
“That is a mission that we started with the end goal of planting as many trees as possible, which we still share to this day, but that just keeps getting bigger and bigger,” he added.
Mr Mercieca, holding the first ever pot that the company produced, said that since then, Happy Pot has “grown a lot” through the team’s “consistent effort” and the community’s support. He remarked that from this year forward, Happy Pot’s birthdays will serve as “checkpoints” for the company’s growth, providing updates on how things are going.
“So this year we’re relaunching Happy Pot 2.0. New website, new products, new team, same energy, more motivation, just a little bit happier,” he continued.
Over the past few months, Happy Pot’s team has steadily grown, with Tim Cini joining as Chief Operating Officer last August. His main focus has been to optimise the day-to-day operations and sales of the company. “Working with Happy Pot has been one of the most rewarding, challenging, and downright crazy experiences of my life,” he said.
Mr Mercieca added that Happy Pot will be focusing more on content in the next few months, as aside from meeting growth targets, it is also keen on connecting with the community more. “We know that Happy Pot is only as strong as the community behind it, so we want to involve you in every step of the way, and that goes for marketing, public relations, product development, and of course, our clean ups and other initiatives,” he explained.
“We’re super happy that you’re here with us, and we hope that you’ll be there for the rest of the journey,” he said, before adding that the company is “just getting started”.
Mr Mercieca expressed gratitude to everyone who “in any way, shape or form” contributed to where Happy Pot is now. “It is our job now to make it worth your while to stick around. So next year, the next video will be in the same position, same exact place, but hopefully a whole lot bigger, a whole lot happier,” he concluded.
