Furniture and home furnishings manufacturer Joinwell Ltd announced on Saturday that one of their long-serving employees, referred to simply as Mariano, has retired after more than 53 years at the company.

“Today was Mariano’s last day working for Joinwell. He started working with Joinwell on 16th September 1969. Yes, more than 53 years ago,” it said in a heart-warming social media post.

Joinwell added that it is “indebted” to Mariano and “many others like him”. More than 20 per cent of its employees have been at the company for upwards of 25 years.

“It is a source of great pride for the company that we have many long-serving employees,” it said, before adding that there are “a lot of benefits” in being in a traditional relationship with one’s job or employer.

“Mariano had the company’s back. And in return we would like to think we had his,” Joinwell said, before thanking him for his service throughout the years.

Founded in 1947 by Galea brothers George, Louis and Joseph as a business specialising in repairing war-damaged doors and apertures, along with contracts from the British services in Malta and in Libya, Joinwell Ltd continued to grow and expand its product portfolio over the years, housing a number of brands. Today, it is run by Sebastian de Giorgio, the grandson of Maurice de Giorgio, who partnered with the Galea brothers back in the 60s.
