Award-winning wildlife photographer Johan Siggesson has opened applications for the 2026 edition of his annual Wildlife Photography Grant, a US$500 award created to support emerging photographers who are passionate about wildlife, nature and conservation storytelling.

Johan Siggesson, a Swedish-born, Malta-based photographer known for his black-and-white fine art wildlife prints, established the grant to recognise photographers who use their work to build connection, respect and awareness around the natural world.

“Wildlife photography can be both artistic and important,” said Mr Siggesson. “It can inspire wonder, deepen understanding, and remind us of what is worth protecting. My hope is that this grant helps support one photographer each year who is committed to seeing the natural world with care and sharing it with others through their work.”

The grant is open to students currently enrolled in a college, university or photography program, as well as emerging photographers and anyone with a strong interest in wildlife, conservation and visual storytelling. Applicants from all countries are welcome.

To apply, entrants must submit 10 wildlife photographs, a written statement of 300 to 500 words, a short biography and their contact details. Applicants retain full copyright to their work throughout the process.

Submissions will be judged on the strength of their visual storytelling, originality and personal perspective, connection to wildlife or conservation, emotional impact, and the quality and clarity of the written statement.

Mr Siggesson has noted that technical perfection is not the deciding factor. What matters most is authenticity, intent and the ability to create meaningful work.

The winner will receive $500 USD, a feature on Johan Siggesson’s website and public recognition for their work.

Johan Siggesson’s own photography has earned honors including Travel Photographer of the Year and European Wildlife Photographer of the Year. His limited-edition black-and-white prints are held in private collections worldwide and have been shown in gallery settings.

Applications for the 2026 Johan Siggesson Wildlife Photography Grant are open until 1st December 2026. The winner will be announced on 15th December.
