Former Member of European Parliament (MEP) Marlene Mizzi has been named Chairperson at Malita Investments plc, with effect from 22nd June 2022, the company announced on Thursday.
In doing so, she succeeds Kenneth Farrugia, who left his role as Chairman and position on the Board of Directors after more than 11 years at the company.
In 2021, she was appointed Director at Malita Investments.
Ms Mizzi was formerly a Labour Party MEP, and has the honour of being Malta’s first female MEP. She served from 2013 until 2019. Additionally, she also occupied several senior positions for a number of companies, such as Chairman of Sea Malta Company Ltd, Flagstone Insurance Brokers, as well as Medfeeder Company Ltd. She also served on Bank of Valletta plc’s (BOV) Board of Directors.
She holds a bachelor's degree (Hons) in Economics, along with a Master of Philosophy degree in Corporate Governance.
Malita Investments added that Miguel Borg has been named Non-Executive Director at the company, also with effect from 22nd June.
Mr Borg is Chief Risk Officer and Executive Director at BOV, having served in the positions for almost eight years and for five years respectively. He is also a Lecturer at the University of Malta’s Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy, as well as Director at BOV Fund Services Ltd, MIMCOL, and Fairs and Exhibitions Ltd.
He is a University of Malta graduate with a Master of Arts degree in Economics, while also being a certified Risk Leader from the Professional Risk Managers’ International Association, among other qualifications.
Malita Investments is a Government registered Investment PLC. It has been set up to operate on an independent and commercial basis, to contribute towards long-term investment development in Malta. Its projects include the Parliament Building, the Valletta City Gate, as well as the site of Malta International Airport.
