Owners of the beloved food truck Tony’s Foods, Samantha Debono and Anthony Aquilina, on Friday announced that this weekend will be their last serving customers.
“It’s been a tough decision to take, but we’ve decided to end our adventure with Toastie [the food truck] to pursue other career opportunities.”
Tony’s Foods had become a familiar sight since it launched in 2019, often used by hospital staff and workers from the nearby San Gwann Industrial Estate.
The truck, which the owners playfully call Toastie, could be found on St Julian’s Road, San Gwann, close by to Mater Dei Hospital.
It was known for its modern takes on local favourites, such as its bajtra liqueur bacon, Twistees coated chicken burger and slow-cooked Kinnie pulled pork.
Last year, the food truck had made headlines after in May 2021 it was broken into, with the owners turning up to work one morning to find a broken lock, damaged door, missing soft drinks, a missing window pane and a missing generator.
Taking to social media on Friday, owners Samantha and Anthony wrote:
“It's been a wild ride, and we've met and served the most incredible people during our two and a half years of service.
“We thank all our wonderful customers, who we consider the closest of friends, for all your support, kindness, and encouragement. We will miss you all dearly.
“Thanks for all the good times.”
