International 4-star hotel franchise Mercure will be opening its first hotel in Malta in St Julian’s this September.
Mercure St Julian’s Malta will form part of Accor, which is Europe’s biggest hotel chain, and promises 4-star luxury and comfort as well as an unmissable 360° view from its rooftop pool.
The hotel has been under construction for the past two years and is now nearing closer to its opening date. Originally planned for June, this has been pushed back to September due to setbacks caused by the pandemic.
Despite this unprecedented difficulty, the hotel’s General Manager, Kurt Micallef, says morale is high.
“We believe that Malta needs a branded 4-star hotel – so we are sure that the decision to enter this segment with a super cool property which is also very practical will pay off in the months ahead” he says.
The hotel boasts 113 rooms and several on-site amenities such as a gym and restaurant. Mr Micallef adds that the Mercure brand takes pride in introducing local elements to hotels, evident through frames made of Maltese lace in the guest rooms and the iconic Mercure brand wall, which can be found in every Mercure hotel representing the local story.
Maltese artist Anabel Zammit has also been commissioned to create two paintings which will be displayed in the lobby.
Mr Micallef also outlined the difficulties it faces as a new hotel in Covid times. "We don’t have any reviews or any pre-covid bookings on the books, as we are a new hotel, but I also believe that the road ahead is a very exciting one for three reasons; the hotel is beautiful, it's in a perfect location and it's part of Europe’s biggest hotel chain."
