One of Malta’s most famous seafood restaurants, Ostrica at Gillieru, announced that it is closing its doors.

"After many seasons of shared tables, seaside sunsets, and moments worth remembering, it’s time for us to gently close this chapter,” Ostrica said.

“As we say farewell to Ostrica, we want to thank everyone who walked through our doors, raised a glass with us, and made this place what it was. Your support and memories will always stay with us. Here’s to everything we shared - Thank you!”

It is unknown whether a new restaurant will be set up in its place. However, Ostrica’s history is knitted into the very fabric of St Paul’s Bay.

The restaurant traces its roots to the early 1900s when home cook Rosi and her fisherman husband Toni set up a small eatery to feed the contractors and masons who were building the seaside town.

In 1965, it expanded into The Gillieru, where it made a name for itself as one of Malta’s most famous modern seafood restaurants. It later expanded into the Gillieru Harbour Hotel, while the restaurant itself became Ostrica at Gillieru.
