Popular healthy food store chain eeetwell is donating 100 per cent of sales made on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd September in aid of Morocco and Libya relief efforts.
“In times of need, we are stepping up to assist Morocco and Libya, both recently affected by calamities… We welcome everyone to stand with us; your contribution can profoundly affect thousands of people in need,” stated eeetwell.
Two days apart from each other, Morocco and Libya communities suffered large-scale destruction of their infrastructure and subsequently suffered thousands of tragic losses from their respective communities.
Tragedy hit Morocco on the 8th of September when a 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit its High Atlas Mountains, less than 100km away from the popular city of Marrakesh, also considered as one of the largest cities of Morocco. So far, Morocco’s Government has announced that at least 2,900 people have been found dead. On the other hand, at least 5,500 people are said to have been injured. This earthquake has been Morocco’s deadliest in more than 60 years.
Almost, 2,500km away, Libya was faced with an even bigger tragedy, with a death toll reaching 11,000 people along with 20,000 people who are still missing. Hichem Chkiouat, Minister of Civil Aviation told Reuters that “bodies are lying everywhere – in the sea, in the valleys, under the buildings. I am not exaggerating when I say that 25 per cent of the city has disappeared. Many, many buildings have collapsed.”
