Business Profile
The Mosta Rotunda Foundation plays a vital role in preserving the architectural and cultural heritage of the Basilica dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady. Its mission focuses on maintaining the integrity of this iconic national patrimony, while fostering community connections through various events, such as musical concerts and art exhibitions.
In 2025, the Candlelight Concert and Giuseppe Cali Exhibition in collaboration with MUŻA - The National Community Art Museum, enthralled an enthusiastic audience in the magnificent Rotunda, adorned with artistic paintings such as, the titular painting of the Assumption of the of our Lady by Stefano Erardi. The annual Christmas concert is a staple in the Foundation’s events calendar, attracting both local and foreign acclaimed artists.
Key initiatives undertaken by the Foundation led by Archpriest Sebastian Caurana as Chairperson and Giovanni Chetcuti as CEO and Treasurer, include the basilica's illumination project, which enhanced its visual appeal, and which involved a significant investment to improve both the interior and exterior lighting. The external lighting project was led by the renowned French architect and designer Franck Franjou. The Foundation also utilises digital tools like the Mosta Dome App to make the basilica more accessible and engaging for visitors. Tours of the magnificent neo-classical architectural national icon, with its unsupported dome, as well as the World War II air raid shelter, next to the Rotunda, can be undertaken by any visitor independently.
The current board members of the Foundation are Chairperson Rev. Sebastian Caruana, Treasurer and CEO Giovanni Chetcuti, Secretary Tony Vella, Board Members Ronnie Bezzina, Vince Farrugia, and Sebastian Mangion.
All board members strive to achieve the Foundation’s mission of conservation and cultural promotion, as well as community support and research, ensuring the preservation of this unique heritage. Future projects include the opening of the crypt for the public and the museum which will span across the sacristies at the Mosta Rotunda.
The museum will take visitors on a journey of faith of the people hailing from Mosta. The excellent work being carried out by the Mosta Rotunda Foundation has been acknowledged by the Malta Tourism Authority which awarded the Quality Assured Seal to the Mosta Rotunda at the end of November.
