Experienced health and safety specialist Carlos Farrugia has been named Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Superintendent at multinational energy and petroleum firm TotalEnergies, he announced on Monday.
The news comes after he parted ways with oil and natural gas company MMH Malta Limited earlier this month after serving as HSE Head of Department for more than two years. Over the course of his time at the firm, “the HSE team achieved a lot with transitioning from ISO 18001 to 45001, and also achieving ISO 14001 certification, besides other accomplishments”, ensuring the firm complies with the latest health and safety management standards.
He thanked MMH Malta’s directors and his colleagues for “their assistance and help along the way to make this a memorable experience,” while also wishing them “all the best for the bright future ahead”.
Mr Farrugia added that it was time for him to “take on new challenges”, as he looks forward to “the projects ahead” on his new career path at TotalEnergies. He joins the firm’s operations in Esbjerg, Denmark.
He has prior experience at TotalEnergies, having worked at the company’s Dutch Continental Shelf centre of operations for two years, serving as Radiation Protection Supervisor and HSE Advisor and Consultant.
Prior to his time at MMH Malta, he served as Permit to Work (PTW) Coordinator and Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPS) Coordinator at Norwegian oil and gas operator DNO ASA’s operations in Iraq for almost four years. He was tasked with conducting regular internal PTW audits as well as coaching, mentoring, and training local PTW Coordinators to the standards expected from the company.
His experience also includes over a year as HSE Supervisor at Trinidad Drilling, more than a year as HSE Coordinator at Halliburton, and also around a year as Safety Consultant Ablecare Oilfield Services at Noble Drilling’s operations in Malta. Mr Farrugia also has a year’s experience as UHP Blaster and Spray Painter at Transocean.
Among his numerous qualifications, Mr Farrugia holds a Master of Science degree in Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment Management from University of Portsmouth, as well as a Health Physics Expert diploma in Radiation Protection and Health Physics Technician from Delft University of Technology.
With over 105,000 employees in 130 countries, TotalEnergies is a “world-class player” in the world’s energy transition. The firm produces and markets fuels, natural gas, and electricity, in a more reliable, cleaner, and accessible manner.
