Local retailer Bortex Group has joined a spate of international fashion brands in transforming its production line to meet the demands of the coronavirus crisis, with their local facilities set to be fully geared towards the manufacturing of face masks and medical scrubs.
In a Facebook post, the Maltese fashion Group – which owns seven retail outlets across the islands, supplying high-end men’s and womenswear – has said the initiative is being coordinated to support the Maltese COVID-19 response movement, with the aim of boosting supplies in local hospitals and charities.
Overseas, stalwarts of the fashion industry, such as Prada, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga, as well as high-street brands, including Zara and H&M Group, have all pledged to support the battle against the pandemic by making much-needed medical protective equipment.
The COVID-19 crisis has forced the closure of thousands of retail stores around the world, including those of Bortex and Gagliardi, which, the Group said, will remain closed until the respective Governments give the green light to open and until it is safe for their employees.
In the meantime, the Group is still accepting online orders, though some slight delays should be expected since these are being processed by a skeleton staff. For more information, click here.
