Ċikku Attard, affectionately known as ‘Ta’ Skutu’, has sadly passed away, his family shared on Monday (today).

Announcing the passing on Facebook, his son Joseph remarked that he will always be remembered by many for his ice cream.

“But for us, he was the backbone of our family – the one who did everything for us and guided us to become who we are today. His love, strength, and sacrifices will never be forgotten,”  he wrote.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday 19th December at 3pm at Qrendi Parish Church.

Ċikku is a beloved figure in the local community, with his ice cream van and popular soft-serve ice cream and ‘granita’ becoming part of many locals’ childhood memories.

In a 2018 interview, he fondly recalled his early days of selling ice cream from a cart alongside his father, before evolving the business to the colourful vans that continue to serve the community today.

Now, Ta’ Skutu ice cream is particularly recognised for upkeeping traditional tastes and recipes.

Over the years, and even in recent months, many shared pictures of a simple ice cream cup with a cone remembering the good old days of childhood.
