The diverse responsibilities of Senior HR professionals demand that they remain ahead of the curve. However, this often places them at a crossroads, requiring them to seek robust solutions for streamlining operations while adhering to budget constraints. In business for over 25 years, Agilis has several flagship products including Interpay, a dedicated payroll system that manages payroll processing, leave management, time attendance tracking and more. After a three year upgrade, Interpay now delivers an even more powerful and comprehensive service suite.

Business Development Manager, Andrew Cutajar explains how Agilis recognises that offering cloud-based payroll software is just one aspect of HR process automation. The next frontier in HR digitisation lies in addressing other crucial tasks that many HR departments are still handling via Excel…not exactly hassle-free or efficiently. While Excel may seem convenient, the challenges of version control, data management and other limitations become apparent as HR teams evolve.

Enter Agilis’ ability to create customised solutions, alongside Interpay, to simplify and improve common HR processes. Mr Cutajar describes the focused service that Agilis prides itself on and solutions for optimising and redefining HR task management beyond standard payroll duties.

The first key aspect of the Agilis service is a free initial consultation with prospective clients to look at how they currently do things via Excel. It is a collaborative approach where HR personnel can openly discuss their challenges. Agilis appreciates that “a one size fits all approach does not apply across all companies and each client has their own set of pain points,” says Mr Cutajar.

After gaining a complete understanding of HR’s operating methods (that are meeting say 80 per cent of the department’s remit), Agilis then proposes automation options that improve task execution and “close the 20 per cent gap” in the client’s current Excel-based system. Mr Cutajar calls these options “micro applications” that are specifically built for the client’s unique requirements and “are hooked onto Interpay.”

Years of expertise in the payroll space has led to Agilis being approached by companies wishing to address various issues. As a result, Agilis has built many of these micro applications for different facets of the HR function. This includes implementation and/or improvement of data collection, record-keeping and onboarding related to recruitment, training and staff appraisal procedures, to name a few areas.

Through their own low code platform, Agilis can easily replicate HR Excel workflows. “We can literally emulate a client’s Excel sheet and customise it to build a solution that fully integrates with the client’s existing payroll software, whether that is Interpay or another,” he explains. The resulting application is an online portal that blends the familiarity of the previous Excel format with the sophistication and speed of digitisation. Features such as automatically generated dashboards, login capability and private URL all contribute to a user-friendly experience that does not require a radical shift.

Aware that some departments may feel nervous about change (and perhaps even attached to their Excel functionality), Mr Cutajar stresses that the Agilis approach is not about discarding HR’s previous efforts or making existing systems totally redundant. Rather, it is about enhancing their work. “We're not trying to come in and change everything,” he assures. “On the contrary, clients already know how and where they need help so we’re there to listen and discuss implementable options together.” Another interesting benefit is that Agilis can “actually produce a light version of what the client needs” and then present this prototype at the next meeting.

Of course, the financial aspect of adopting new technologies is often the critical concern for departments that are considering a process overhaul. While traditional development can be time-consuming and expensive, Mr Cutajar reveals that the transition from Excel to Agilis-enabled efficiency does not break the bank. As the low code tool enables his team to build applications 60 per cent faster than the conventional route, this translates into cost-effectiveness for HR clients.

By embracing the complexities of individual workflows and offering budget-friendly solutions, Interpay and Agilis’ additional satellite products offer an intuitive route to HR professionals who are ready to transcend the limitations of Excel. Due to the company’s concentrated efforts, Interpay has emerged not just as a payroll solution but as a catalyst for broader digital transformation within HR departments.

Tailored attentive service and ‘turbo’ solutions that make task flow smoother and life easier for HR personnel. Or, as Mr Cutajar calls it, “extreme support” - this is the Agilis advantage.
