Having graduated with Honours in accountancy from the University of Malta in 1996, James Bonavia joined the Tax Department of the then Arthur Andersen representatives in Malta, focusing mainly on direct tax compliance and advisory for corporate and personal clients.

“When the firm merged with Ernst & Young in 2002,” he recalls, “I decided to specialise further in VAT advisory and compliance. In 2007, I joined Deloitte’s International Tax Department specialising further in international tax.”

The origin of the Maltese firm can be traced back to one of Malta’s first accountants whose portfolio of clients comprised a number of leading family-owned businesses on the island. Over the years, the practice expanded steadily and is now firmly established as one of Malta’s leading providers of professional services.

Deloitte is a multidisciplinary firm offering a wide range of services unrivalled in the Maltese marketplace. The local firm is a leading provider of auditing, taxation and financial advisory skills to an extensive client base. It serves large significant international and national clients as well as smaller family type businesses, which all benefit from the firm’s policy of direct personal involvement by the top management.

As a member firm of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL), it consistently uses integrated methodologies and technology with a view to providing high-quality services that meet clients' needs.
