Andrew Debattista Segond  was at the helm when Smart Homes Ltd was established as a construction company with the aim of providing high-quality construction services to both the private and the public sector.

“As this company grew, I moved on to incorporate and directly manage two additional development companies, Smarthomes Developments Ltd and Smarthomes Real Estate Ltd, through which all development projects were acquired. In turn, each company would then engage Smart Homes Ltd to carry out construction works as part of Smarthomes Group,” he tells WhosWho.mt.

The Group has developed and sold many properties, ranging from apartment blocks to single dwelling units.

Following the exponential growth of Smarthomes Group, he set up another group – Smartcare Group - with the aim to branch out into new sectors. This group started up with an old people’s home, Dar Pinto, in Qormi, which is now operating at full occupancy. Forming part of this group are another four companies, namely Smartcare Properties Ltd, which is involved in the ownership and management of property, Smartcare Finance plc, which is the financing company arm of the group, Smartcare Holdings Ltd, being the holding company of the group, and Segond Boutique Hotels Ltd, which operates a boutique hotel in Gozo, boasting 52 luxurious rooms, a conference centre, and FRANCIE, a restaurant serving an array of dishes from Turkish to Indian, as well as casual fare like pizzas and burgers.

“My most recent venture is in Sicily, where I am building, finishing and selling properties with a full team including legal, engineering, architectural and project management talent.

“I believe that in order to achieve a good sound business one must place utmost trust and confidence in a winning team of colleagues who, ultimately, want the same end result, working together towards a common goal.”
