A month after closing Marsaxlokk restaurant Roots, siblings Matthew Bugeja and Daniela Caruana are preparing to give their brand a new lease of life.

WhosWho.mt can confirm that the former Roots owners are set to open a bottle shop and artisan food store in the same town.

Set to open sometime in October, Roots Wines, Foods and Spirits will keep the familiar Roots name and branding, but with a different focus.

The new shop will stock wines, which the siblings have been importing since 2018, alongside a selection of spirits, liquors, artisan food, and other items.

Food products will include olive oil, honey, vinegar, jams and marmalades, chutneys, Delectat-crafted cheeses and artisan chocolate.

It will also sell readymade sauces and meals, homemade cakes (in whole and by the slice), Panettone (during the festive period), hampers, and even some handmade items and souvenirs.

Eventually, the shop plans to introduce deliveries across Malta.

Meanwhile, the siblings have leased the original Roots premises to another restaurateur, who is set to reopen it as The Quay next week.
