Business Profile
I was admitted to the bar in 2013, having earned my Law degree from the University of Malta, following a Bachelor of Laws and a Diploma of Notary Public. As part of the requirements for the Doctor of Laws degree, I submitted my thesis entitled “Fiduciary Obligations and the Concept of ‘Prestanome’ in Maltese Law.” Through this research, I explored the parallels and distinctions between modern fiduciary obligations and the traditional legal institute of mandate, focusing on relevant sections of the Civil Code and amendments to Malta’s trust law. My work provided insight into the system’s roots in both Common Law and Roman Law and examined fiduciary duties, the nature of fiduciary relationships, and the implications for parties bound by such duties, supported by relevant local and international case law.
My principal areas of legal practice are Family Law, Criminal Law, and Debt Collection. Over the years, I have taken on various leadership roles within national regulatory bodies and advisory boards, reflecting my commitment to public service and professional ethics. I currently serve as Chair of the Audit Committee of the Malta Gaming Authority, assisting the Board of Directors in ensuring sound corporate governance, financial oversight, and risk management. My responsibilities include overseeing accounting processes, auditing financial statements, supervising internal audits, and reviewing internal control systems.
In addition, I am the Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Counselling Profession in Malta, the national body regulating the counselling sector. I also serve as Chairman of EquestriMalta, the authority responsible for regulating equestrian sports in Malta, ensuring compliance across various disciplines and safeguarding animal welfare. Furthermore, I am a sitting member of the Offender Assessment Board, where I provide expert advice to the Parole Board on the risk of reoffending, recommend rehabilitation programs, and evaluate the suitability of potential parolees for release.
