A new speech-writing service has earned its first corporate client a standing ovation, as listeners responded to the “heartfelt touch” the service seeks to add to communications both commercial and personal.

Run by Lara Calleja, who this year became the first Maltese woman to win the European Prize for Literature, Mill-Qalb aims to provide both company speeches as well as those delivered during life events like weddings and funerals a professional touch.

The service invites clients to share their intentions, which Ms Calleja brings to life by customising her writing to the sentiments they want to convey.

“We want you to feel that you own what we wrote,” reads the start-up’s website.

“Think of us as tiny helpers on your side of the road, who steer your thoughts in the write direction.”

Mill-Qalb is already making a splash, and took to LinkedIn to celebrate the positive response received by its first corporate client.

“We wrote for one of the biggest real estate companies in Malta; a designed speech for its 60 employees,” said Mill-Qalb.

“The result? A standing ovation cheered the CEO as he finished his last line.”

Mill-Qalb pointed out that motivation comes through communication.

“Speeches are there to praise, to motivate, to speak to people's hearts and minds.”

The service says that it adapts the company's ethos as a tone of voice, without failing to be both human and relevant.

Mill-Qalb's speeches for weddings and funerals already have a successful track record, with a testimonial on the service’s website revealing Ms Calleja’s clients’ satisfaction with the service:

“Lara helped us to choose the right words to express better how we feel. Our vows captured details which made the ceremony very special and intimate,” said Audrey.

"Something which really struck me was that after the ceremony several of our guests, mentioned how special the vows were and how they related to some of the words and instances that we shared.”

As the power of words becomes more widely appreciated, and both individuals and companies look for that spark to drive connection, Mill-Qalb seems well-positioned to provide a service increasingly in need.
