MAPFRE has fully exited Plaza Centres plc, with Virgata Group Sarl emerging as a significantly larger shareholder following a major shift in the company’s ownership structure.
In a company announcement, Plaza Centres plc confirmed that Mapfre MSV Life plc has disposed of its entire shareholding in the company, representing 31.418374 per cent of the issued share capital. As a result of the transaction, MAPFRE no longer holds any shares in Plaza Centres.
On the same date, Virgata Group Sarl, a Luxembourg-registered company, notified Plaza Centres that it now holds 37.615 per cent of the voting rights in the company. Prior to the transaction, Virgata Group held 5.95 per cent of Plaza Centres’ issued share capital, and has now emerged as the company’s largest shareholder.
The notifications were made in terms of the applicable regulations governing the acquisition and disposal of voting rights in listed companies.
Virgata Group invests family capital, predominantly in European commercial real estate and related opportunities. The private investment firm is registered in Luxembourg but have a flagship building, the Van Nellefabriek, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
First opened in 1993, The Plaza Shopping Centre features four floors dedicated to shopping, dining, training, and entertainment, together with an additional five floors of office space.
Plaza Centres also owns a 51 per cent stake in Esports Avenue Limited, a company owning and managing Esports Plaza, an Esports lounge located within the shopping centre. While the company’s results are not directly contributing to Plaza Centres’ bottom line, it is complementing the ground floor which also has a food hall and a gym.
