The Club Championship and Ladies Championship, both held at the Royal Malta Golf Club (RMGC), have been sponsored by Laferla Insurance Agency Ltd.

With the Club Championship being sponsored by Laferla for the second year running, sponsorship of the Ladies Championship is a first for the family-run insurance company.

Laferla has previously sponsored other competitions hosted by the RMGC, including the Wedgewood Trophy and the Malta vs The Rest competition several times.

Inaugurated in 1963, the RMGC Club Championship has now become the main competition of the Maltese golf season.

This year’s Club Championship will start on 20th May and come to a close on 22nd May.

The 2021 Club Championship finished in a dramatic final-hole match-up between Andy Borg and Ruud Critien after three days, with Mr Critien eventually emerging as the winner and will seek to retain the title this year.

On the other hand, the Ladies Championship started on 18th May and will finish on 19th May (today), as defending champion Laine Tutane will face tough competition from numerous rising local stars who are products of RMGC’s Junior Academy.

“The sponsorship of both men’s and ladies’ Club Championships cements Laferla’s ongoing commitment towards Corporate Social Responsibility within the Maltese society,” Laferla’s Joint-Managing Director Keith Laferla said.

“The sponsorship joins a long list of philanthropic contributions that the brand has and will continue to make to the benefit of the community,” he added.

“With the Royal Malta Golf Club in great condition, and weather forecasts seeming optimal throughout the week, low scores and fierce competition should be expected, making for a great couple of tournaments,” Mr Laferla said.

He concluded by wishing all the participants good luck in their respective competitions.

Additionally, Laferla will be sponsoring two supplementary competitions hosted throughout the same week, with these being the Centenary Plate for men and the Moya Hann Shield for ladies.
