BSC Education, a UK-based English language education business with a centre in Malta, has shut down.
The company operated English language schools in London, Brighton, Edinburgh, Manchester and York, before expanding to Malta in 2024 with the opening of a centre at Palazzo Capua, Sliema.
Its Maltese centre offered English language programmes, IELTS exam preparation and the International Foundation Year (IFY) in Business and Social Sciences.
As reported by StudyTravel Magazine, BSC Education sent a statement to agents that confirmed the closure but without giving providing any reasons.
It acknowledged that it was “an extremely difficult time” for everyone connected with the company and said its immediate priory was supporting currently enrolled students and providing information to those with future bookings, while trying to minimise disruption as much as possible.
“BSC Education has welcomed thousands of students from around the world, providing educational opportunities, cultural experiences and pathways to personal and professional growth,” it said.
“We are immensely proud of the impact our schools, staff and partners have made and of the global community that has been built over the years.”
The ELT Council, which regulates Malta’s English language school industry, said it regrets BSC Education’s closure.
“Once again, Malta’s ELT community is demonstrating its commitment to supporting international students during challenging circumstances,” it said.
“The ELT Council, as Malta’s regulatory authority for the ELT sector, is actively coordinating efforts to facilitate the continuation of English language tuition for affected students, with the support of a number of licensed ELT schools, including independent ELT Schools and FELTOM member schools. We sincerely appreciate the willingness of these schools to step forward and offer their assistance.”
“Our commitment remains to support students within our regulatory remit and to uphold Malta’s reputation as a responsible and trusted destination for English language learning.”
BSC Education’s closure comes around a month after the collapse of EC English, a Malta-based industry giant that had operated schools in the UK, Canada, Ireland, South Africa, and the UAE.
ILAC Education Group, which was Canada’s largest English language school, also closed down this year.
