Business Profile

The Malta Business Registry (MBR), established under Subsidiary Legislation 595.27, is responsible for the registration of new commercial partnerships and legal entities, the registration of documents related to commercial partnership, the issuing of certified documentation (including certificates of good-standing, amongst others), the reservation of company names, the collection of registration and other fees, the publication of notices and the imposition and collection of penalties. The Registry also conducts investigations of companies and the keeping of the company and partnership register as well as the beneficial ownership register. The MBR also hosts the Foundations and Associations Unit which receives and processes applications for the registration of organisations. Upon registration, the Registrar will issue a certificate of registration showing that the organisation has been officially registered. Also, the entity hosts the Office of the Official Receiver, which functions are outlined in the Companies Act, and relate mainly to insolvency and the winding up of companies following dissolution by the Court.
