Andrew Vella, the owner of Rebekah’s restaurant, took to Facebook yesterday to share his disappointment over an incident that occurred at his establishment.

According to Mr Vella, a group of guests refused service from one of his team members solely due to the employee’s skin colour.

Mr Vella expressed his sadness and frustration over the incident, which he said contradicts the values at the heart of his restaurant. "This behaviour goes against everything we stand for at Rebekah’s," he wrote.

In his post, he took the opportunity to reaffirm his pride in every member of his team and the restaurant’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment. "We believe in treating everyone with respect, dignity, and equality—both in our kitchen and with our guests," he stated.

Mr Vella’s message emphasised that all patrons of Rebekah’s are expected to show the same level of respect toward the staff. He made it clear that discriminatory behaviour will not be tolerated, encouraging the creation of a positive environment for all who visit.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of inclusivity in Malta’s hospitality industry, with Mr Vella’s decisive response highlighting the need for mutual respect between staff and guests.
