On Friday (today), Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) celebrated the 25th work anniversary of its Chief Officer Enforcement, Michelle Mizzi Buontempo.

“Her rock-solid dedication, expertise and leadership have been game changers,” said MFSA.

Dr Mizzi Buontempo has held the role of Chief Officer Enforcement since 2020, having previously led the Conduct Supervision function for five years.

Additionally, she was Acting Chief Executive Officer by the MFSA Board of Governors from June until August 2022 and was later reappointed in September of the same year until April 2023.

She has decades of experience in the regulation and supervision of different areas within financial services, including supervision of investment firms and fiduciaries. She has also represented the MFSA at various committees of the ESAs and is a member of the ECB Supervisory Board.

During her time at MFSA, Dr Mizzi Buontempo has had a number of projects under her wing including the setting up of a regulatory regime to enhance consumer protection in the investments and insurance sector, as well the establishment of a new regulatory framework for trustees and company service providers.

She regularly holds lectures on corporate governance and consumer protection. Despite being an advocate by profession, she obtained a Masters Degree in Financial Services from the University of Malta. She also holds a warrant to practice in the Maltese Courts.

MFSA thanked her for her commitment. “Here’s to more successful milestones together.”
