Gozitan national Eman Borg has become Malta’s first Commonwealth Youth Ambassador. The appointment was announced by the British High Commission in Malta.
The 25-year old youth ambassador, who has been active in Malta’s National Youth Council (KNZ) for several years, was recognised with another Commonwealth honour in 2017, where he was appointed as a Queen’s Young Leader for his activism with LGBTQI+ Gozo, and presented with the award by the Monarch herself.
In 2019, Eman also represented Malta in the Commonwealth Youth Forum, and currently serves as a youth advisor to the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.
“Kunsill Nazzjonali taz-Zghazagh (KNZ) announced Malta's Youth Ambassador will focus on issues related to unemployment, poverty, quality education, housing, sustainable environment and climate change,” the British High Commission in Malta wrote in its post.
“The outcome will then be put forward to the International Task Force as part of The Commonwealth Youth Forum that will represent young people throughout The Commonwealth during Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2020.”
In a reaction to the appointment, KNZ said Eman’s role will help establish the National Youth Council and Malta as active protagonists in the global community, “where its values of development, democracy and peace are needed more than ever to safeguard the positive cooperation on an international scale.”
